EPA Climate Economics Seminars

On November 18, 2009 US EPA will hold a seminar on “Fixing a Critical Climate Accounting Error” with Timothy D. Searchinger (Princeton University) as the speaker. On December 8, 2009 they will hold a seminar on “Non-Market Values and General Equilibrium Assessments of Environmental Policy” with Jared Carbone (Department of Economics and the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy; University of Calgary) as the speaker. FY 2010 Food Assistance and Nutrition Research Conference

The annual Food Assistance and Nutrition Research Conference identifies emerging research issues related to domestic food assistance and nutrition programs administered by USDA. Recently completed research will also be discussed. This year’s conference—Emerging Issues and Recent Findings—will be held on December 10, 2009. Information on registration and a preliminary agenda is available at at the ERS website.

Upcoming Grantsmanship Workshops Presented by USDA/NIFA

At NIFA's grantsmanship workshops, agency staff provide overviews of its competitive grants, including program goals and priorities; the grant evaluation process; and past funding statistics. Researchers, educators, extension specialists, and administrators are encouraged to attend. Two workshop types are offered each year and hosted by different universities. The upcoming workshops are: November 10-11, 2009, Kansas City, MO and November 16-17, 2009, Arlington, VA.

Speakers for 2010 USDA Ag Outlook Forum

On October 20 Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the speakers at the 2010 Agricultural Outlook Forum will include the Co-President of Whole Foods, the recently retired CEO of Sysco Corporation and the CEO of Bon Appétit Management Company. Vilsack will keynote the forum titled “Sustainable Agriculture: The Key to Health & Prosperity.” Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan will open the annual forum on Feb. 18, 2010, at 8 a.m. View the press release.

2009 PREISM Workshop

ERS's Program of Research on the Economics of Invasive Species Management (PREISM), an annual competitive grant and cooperative agreement program that focuses on national decisionmaking concerning agricultural invasive species, will hold its 2009 workshop on October 22-23 at ERS. The workshop is free and open to all, but please register to attend. As a public service, this workshop will also be available as a webcast.

International Colloquium Meta-Analysis of Economics Research

Dr.Randall Rosenberger and Oregon State University will host a colloquium on October 2-3, 2009 for those engaged in research or are interested in learning more about this area.

NABE Annual Meeting

The National Association of Business Economists (NABE) will hold their 50th annual meeting on October 4-7, 2008 in Washington, DC.

Applied Commodity Price Analysis

The 2009 NCCC-134 meeting on Applied Commodity Price Analysis, Forecasting and Market Risk Management will take place April 20-21, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel St. Louis, Missouri. The deadline for proposals is October 1, 2008.
